How do I get started?

Do you post any and all individuals, regardless of the crime? 

• Yes, we are a judgment-free website.

How can I pay for my profile? 

• Payment can be submitted via check (from the prison), money order, or online (see instructions). 

Can I post someone with a nickname on the profile, instead of their real name? 

• No, we request that all information listed on the profile be authentic. Failure to do so may result in the profile being removed, without a refund. 

Can photos of the incarcerated individual be mailed? 

• Yes! Please send all photos to Unchained Connections 3202 McClellan Blvd #4523 Anniston, AL 36204. Photos with just the incarcerated individual are highly preferred, but if you have to send photos with others, be sure to identify the person who is being posted. 

How can I edit or make changes to a profile?

• Profiles are managed on the backend, so our staff will have to manually make the appropriate changes. Please contact us for assistance.
  

How long does it take for a profile to go live on the website? 

• We kindly request that you allow up to (14) business days (excluding holidays and weekends) for the profile to be live on the site.

Can you send a brochure in the mail? 

• Sure! Please find out how to request a brochure here.

My loved one hasn't received any pen pals! 

• Unfortunately, per our disclaimer during the initial sign-up, we cannot guarantee that anyone will contact you. 

How can someone be removed from Unchained Connections? 

• Removal from our site requires written consent from the inmate (ONLY). We will also accept a screenshot of written consent or verbal consent. Please contact us, via Corrlinks/GettingOut (GTL), Jpay, Securus, or send a letter to:

If I am removed, am I forfeiting the rest of my subscription time? 

• Nope! If you want to reactivate within the time of the subscription, please reactivate the profile. The remaining time will be fulfilled.

How do I write an inmate? 

• On the profile page, you will see all contact information and instructions on how to reach them. 

How old do I have to be to write someone? 

• You must be 18 years of age or older to be a pen pal.

Does it cost anything to write them? 

• It depends on what method of contact you use. Most of the people we post are in Federal prison, so it is free for you to text or email them (via CorrLinks). And you can always write them a letter, which costs less than $1 (for the stamp).

How do I know what my pen pal is incarcerated for? 

• Every inmate who creates a profile on our site will be properly vetted. Their charges, entry date, and release date is posted on their profile. We do not accept anyone with crimes against women or children. Even though we provide a little insight on their conviction, please do your own research. 

I need help with setting up an account to message my pen pal. Can you help? 

• Sure! Please contact us here.

Can I send photos to the text number listed? 

• No, please only send a regular text messages. Photos will need to be sent via mail. They must not be any larger than 4 x 6 and for most prisons, you cannot include more than 25. Please check with the person you're talking to to confirm the rules. You can also use third-party printing services like Free Prints and Shutterfly. Please send the photos directly to the inmate. 

How long will it take the inmate to contact me back? 

• Through text or email, it could take 2-3 hours for them to respond. 
• For mail, it could take 3-5 business days for mail to travel state-to-state, or 1-3 business days if you're in the same state. 
• Times will vary and may be longer if a prison is on lockdown. 

I met someone on here and want to take their profile down. How do I do that?
