BIOgraphy

My name is Virginia Griese, and I am...oh boy, how do you even describe yourself in a single word? I'm an academic, an outdoorswoman, a yogi, a student, a vociferous reader, a curious cook/eater, and I love anything that lives but is not human(okay, so humans aren't THAT bad). I have been in prison for the last 13 years or so, and I'm coming up on going home....Home is Manhattan, KS, but I have no kids or career tying me down, so my entire life is up in the air. I love to learn, I have a WICKED sense of humor, and I use my brain more often than most people. I have big heart, but I do not suffer fools. I have worked hard to become the person that I am today, and I continue to do so. I'm about to transfer to the camp across the street, and I usually spend my time teaching yoga and Pilates, working out, being outside, barefoot in the grass, reading and listening to people. I find myself listening more than talking, though I have a lot to say... I'm a 90's kid, and that's reflected in my taste in music. I believe that all music has a time and place, though...That really applies to reading too- I love to read, and while I read a lot of non-fiction, I LOVE sci-fi.
I can't wait to go home and cook and have a library and tend to a garden, raise bees, and be my own handywoman. I've worked often in maintenance positions in prison, because I'm a solid problem-solver, and I love to work with my hands. I have done everything you can think of in prison- I've done tattoos, I've taught classes, I crochet and knit, I play sports, I've run half-marathons, I've done the vast majority of my college work in prison, as well. I am fiercely independent- I like to handle my business, and do it right the first time.
I spend a lot of time right now meditating, writing, schoolwork, and, because I live in a "modified therapeutic community", but am not actually IN the program, I spend a lot of time listening to people, helping them find their own way in life.
When I get out- I'm not looking to be some gold digger or trophy wife(though I will look like one). I like to work, I HAVE to contribute, and I want to give back to my community. I want to be some kind of guidance counselor/yoga + Pilates instructor/life coach when I get out. I want to spend as much time as I possibly can outside, with the grass between my toes, the wind in my hair, and the sun on my shoulders. I want to wear sundresses and go to farmer's markets and knit my own sweaters. I would love to travel, but if it's not in the cards, that's cool too. I'm pretty damn easy-going, though I have firm boundaries and I know what I want out of life. I'm not really into the brand-name life, I'm a hippie(I mean, I was born literally the day between 4/20 and Earth Day), and it shows. I am also 100% woman, and well...it's been a long time. I am a handful where it counts, and I live up to that to the fullest. ;)
Ahh, I'm rambling; I tend to do that. I have an appetite for life that is unparalleled, and I would love to explore and learn and laugh with someone else. You'll never be bored, I can tell you that much. ;D Soooo if you'd like to keep me company on my final stretch, and you can make me laugh, drop me a line(is that what the kids say these days?)!
XOXO
